Yering Station Wine Tasting at BarSu- Venerable Vintages from Victoria

On Thursday March 22, 2012, BarSu and Italasia invite you to chill-out in style as elegant bartendees uncork a selection of distinctive wines by Yering Station, one of Australia’s finest wineries. Each exceptional vintage will be complimented by creative canapés.

Established in 1838 by the Scottish-born Ryrie brothers, Yering Station was the State of Victoria’s first vineyard.  The brothers purchased grazing rights for 43,000 acres in the Yarra Valley which they planted with vines. In the 1850’s the estate was sold to Paul de Castella who developed Yering Station into the region’s most renowned winery when he won a Grand Prix at the 1889 Universal Exhibition in Paris.

Today, Yering Station is owned by the Rathbone family and is a landmark tourist destination featuring an art gallery, restaurant, a modern winery and 275 acres of vines producing wines such as the estate’s highly acclaimed Pinot Noir and many other award-winning labels. James Halliday, the highly respected wine critic and author of the “Australian Wine Companion”, said of Yering Station wines, “the quality is consistently outstanding, frequently with unmatched finesse and delicacy.”

The evening at BarSu begins with Yering Station Sparkling Wine complimented by an intriguing dish of yabbie tails with yuzo and vanilla. The bubbly with be followed by Little Yering Chardonnay 2010, a classic, long ripening vintage providing intense fruit flavors and lingering concentration that pairs perfectly with butter poached free range chicken, foie gras and celeriac.  Next, wine lovers will enjoy a delicately floral Yering Station Rosé with an extra-dry finish to match a dish of succulent black cod with a Pinot Noir reduction. The fourth wine of the evening will be the Yering Station Pinot Noir 2010, a wine awarded 94 points for its “gorgeous rose petal, violet and cherry kernel perfume and silky gown of fine supple tannins.” The exceptional wine will be served with slow cooked ostrich fillet with wattle seed crushed pepper jus and butternut pumpkin-scallion succotash.

Another engaging wine served in the stylish surroundings of BarSu will be the Yering Cabernet Shiraz 2008. The wine displays intense dark berry fruits complemented by soft tannins with a powerful and persistent finish and will be the ideal accompaniment to Tajima Wagyu beef lasagnette with black truffle scented jus and Parmesan espuma.

The memorable evening ends with the James Halliday 94 point Yering Station Cabernet Sauvignon 2008. The complex cool-grown cabernet boasts a bouquet of cassis, red fruits, cedar and spice and will be served with exquisite chocolate textures with Amarena cherries.
