Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit, A Luxury Collection Hotel, in association with FIN, the Fabulous is Needed Wine Company, will host its 100th Wine Dinner at Rossini’s on Friday June 24th.
For over a decade, Rossini’s award-winning restaurant has hosted renowned monthly gourmet wine dinners that have championed some of the world’s greatest chefs. A highlight of the city’s culinary calendar, each fabulous culinary event presents discerning diners with an exquisite menu of refined Italian cuisine specially created to compliment a selection of exceptional wines.
To mark the auspicious 100th Wine Dinner, Rossini’s Chef Stefano Merlo will prepare a divine 5-course menu to match a selection of high quality wines from mountain vineyards in France, Germany and Italy, each one carefully chosen by experts at FIN. The company’s director and inspiration, Benjawan Wisootsat will be present at the dinner to enchant diners with secrets and tales about the wines.
The memorable evening will begin with canapés served with Cremant de Limoux AC, Bernard Delmas, Languedoc-Roussillon, France, a delightful organic sparkling wine made from the traditional Blanquette blend of 80% Mauzac and 20% Chardonnay that delivers a heady grape aroma and a fabulous nutty flavor.
Seated in Rossini’s sophisticated setting of a Tuscan villa, diners will enjoy Chef Stefano’s menu of Italian cuisine that reflects his rich culinary heritage and flair for contemporary presentation. The first course of the evening, a delicious seared scallop Rossini’s style will be paired with Meersburger Bengel Spätburgunder Weissherbst QbA, Baden, 2008 from Germany.
The second dish, steamed Baccala with fennel and vanilla will be accompanied by Terlaner Sauvignon DOC “Lehenhof”, Alois Lageder, 2006 from Italy, a bright acid wine with aromas of dried apricot and apple with hints of pear that was awarded 88 points by Wine Spectator.
This will be followed by beetroot gnocchi and gorgonzola cheese fondue served with the Italian Dolcetto d’Alba DOC “Tre Vigne”, Vietti, Piedmont, 2007, a full-bodied jammy wine with fruit-forward flavors of crushed raspberries and blackberries, and a fresh finish.
Chef Stefano’s fourth course will be succulent venison tenderloin with cherry sauce and celery root matched with Bandol Rouge, Domaine de Terrebrune, 2006 from France. A blend of Mouvedre, Grenache and Cinsault grapes, the wine displays flavors of dark plum, mineral and dried raspberry with a subtle finish of white pepper and truffle. Distinctive, balanced and full of character, it is the perfect choice to accompany Chef Stefano’s venison.
The memorable evening of fine dining and fine mountain wines will end with traditional Venetian polenta cake with tonka bean ice cream accompanied by Rigoletto “Santa Christina” IGT, Zenato, Veneto, 2006 from Italy. A remarkably complex wine with an aroma of ripe fruit, preserves, and scents of honey and vanilla, it delivers majestic richness with notes of sun dried fruit. The truly unforgettable 100th Wine Dinner at Rossini’s ends with coffee or tea biscotti.
